GENERAL QUESTIONS

  1. Where is the University located ? 
    The San Juan Campus of Carlos Albizu University is located at Calle Tanca 151, Corner San Francisco Street, at the heart of the Old San Juan historical area.  Switchboard number is (787) 725-6500.

  2. Is there parking available for visitors?
    No. In order to gain access to the parking you must have a parking permit.  However, you may use any of the public parking available around the building.

  3. What accreditations does the University have?
    The San Juan Campus has an operation license from the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education.  Also, it is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.  Finally, our clinical doctoral programs (Ph.D. and Psy.D.) are accredited by the American Psychological Association.

  4. What is the time in which courses are offered? [Top]
    In the case of the Bachelor of Science in Speech and Language Therapy, courses are offered Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.  This program also offers an option for studying Saturdays only.  This special section is opened for admission only during the Fall session of each year. 

    Students who request this option take classes from     8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Courses pertaining to the Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology program are offered Fridays and Saturdays only (two courses each day) from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Every other program at CAU offer courses mostly on evenings from 5:00 to     10:00 pm. 

    During the Spring and Fall sessions class duration is 2.5 hours once a week.  On the other hand, during the Summer session, class duration is 2.5 hours twice a week.

  5. Does CAU-San Juan Campus require its students to be bilingual? [Top]
    Yes. Students are expected to have adequate reading, writing and conversational skills in English and Spanish.

  6. What types of financial aid assistance does CAU offer? [Top]
    For information regarding financial aid, please refer to the Financial Aid Department section.

  7. Does CAU-San Juan Campus accept students who have just graduated from high school? [Top]
    No.  CAU-San Juan Campus offers what is called an upper bound baccalaureate that requires applicants to approve, at least, 51 credits prior to be eligible for transfer. 

    In some cases, an applicant with just 45 credits approved can be considered for admission if, among pending requisites, are the courses of History of Puerto Rico and Writing and Editing which are offered at CAU.


BACHELOR PROGRAMS

  1. What undergraduate programs (bachelor) are offered at CAU-San Juan Campus? [Top]
    Currently there is an academic offer of two (2) undergraduate programs.  The San Juan Campus offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology or Speech and Language Therapy.

  2. How many credits do I have to approve to obtain a bachelor degree in Psychology? [Top]
    This program consists of 120 credits divided as follows: 51 credits in foundation courses and 69 credits in concentration courses.

  3. How many credits do I have to approve to obtain a bachelor degree in Speech and Language Therapy? [Top]
    This program consists of 126 credits divided as follows: 51 credits in foundation courses, 69 credits in concentration courses and 6 credits in clinical practice.

  4. What is the current cost per credit for the undergraduate (bachelor) program? [Top]
    The current cost per credit at CAU-San Juan Campus can be found in the Tuition and Fees Page.  Upon making a decision, applicants must also take into consideration other costs such as global fees, laboratories and practices.

  5. How much time will it take to complete a bachelor degree at CAU-San Juan Campus? [Top]
    CAU’s-San Juan Campus bachelor programs are designed to be completed in six academic sessions (two years) as described in the curricular sequence of each program. Be advised that at CAU enrollment for the summer session is mandatory. 

    Finally, applicants must take into consideration that actual requisite completion rate is affected by a diversity of factors such as withdrawals and course repetition. In general terms, institutional policy establishes that undergraduate students will have a maximum time limitation of six years.

  6. Does CAU-San Juan Campus offer housing facilities for its students? [Top]
    Currently, there are no housing facilities at CAU-San Juan Campus.  However, given the fact that the Institution is right in the middle of Puerto Rico’s capital the building is easily accessible by car or bus.

  7. How many credits can I request to be transferred from my current undergraduate program? [Top]
    Upon the recommendation of the Program Director, a maximum of ninety (90) credits can be accepted for transfer.

  8. What is the deadline to submit my application for the undergraduate program?  [Top]
    Admission deadlines vary from year to year.  Please refer to the Academic Calendar included in the CAU Web Page Calendar section.

MASTER PROGRAMS

  1. What graduate programs (masters and doctoral) are offered at CAU-San Juan Campus? [Top]
    Currently there is an academic offer of six (6) graduate programs.  The San Juan Campus offers two (2) Master of Science programs in the areas of Industrial- Organizational Psychology and Speech and Language Pathology.  Also, we offer a total of four (4) doctoral programs in the areas of Clinical Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), Industrial- Organizational Psychology (Ph.D.) and General Psychology (Ph.D.).

  2. I’m interested in applying for the Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology, but do not have a bachelor degree in Speech and Language Therapy.  Can I apply for the masters program anyway?[Top]
    Applicants to the MS in Speech and Language Pathology Program with a bachelor degree other than Speech and Language Therapy, will be required to approve courses in five specific areas: Nature and Needs of the Exceptional Child, Human Growth and Development, Basic Statistics, Grammar and Physical Sciences.

    The course of Basic Statistics is mandatory for every applicant, regardless of his or her concentration. CAU offers the courses of Human Growth and Development (BP-403), Nature and Needs of the Exceptional Child (SLT-464), Statistics in Psychology (BP-408),in substitution of Basic Statistics, Compendium of Report Writing and Editing   (BP-443), in substitution of Grammar and Acoustic and Psychoaccoustic Aspects of Sound and Voice Reception and Perception (SLT-445), in substitution of Physical Sciences.

  3. I’m interested in applying for the Master of Science in Industrial Organizational Psychology, but do not have a bachelor degree in Psychology.  Can I apply for the masters program anyway? [Top]
    Applicants to graduate psychology programs with a bachelor degree other than psychology, will be required to approve courses in five specific areas: Experimental Psychology, Statistics, Physiological Psychology, Personality Theories and Abnormal Psychology.

    These courses may be taken as pre-requisites at SJC or any other accredited institution. The applicant that does not meet the minimum criteria of 3.00, may opt to take those pre-requisites not previously taken at the bachelors level and which, if approved with a grade of A or B, will improve his/her grade point average to the required minimum.

  4. What is the current cost per credit for the masters program?  [Top]
    The current cost per credit at CAU-San Juan Campus can be found in the Tuition and Fees Page.  Upon making a decision, applicants must also take into consideration other costs such as global fees, laboratories and practices.

  5. How much time will it take to complete a masters degree at CAU-San Juan Campus?  [Top]
     CAU’s-San Juan Campus masters programs are designed to be completed in six academic sessions (two years) as described in the curricular sequence of each program. Be advised that at CAU enrollment for the summer session is mandatory.

  1. I’m interested in applying for the doctoral program, but do not have a bachelor degree in Psychology.  Can I apply for the  doctoral program anyway? [Top]

    The current cost per credit at CAU-San Juan Campus can be found in the Tuition and Fees Page.  Upon making a decision, applicants must also take into consideration other costs such as global fees, laboratories and practices.

  3. How much time will it take to complete a doctoral degree at CAU-San Juan Campus? [Top]
     CAU’s-San Juan Campus clinical doctoral programs are designed to be completed in eighteen (18) academic sessions (six years) as described in the curricular sequence of each program. On the other hand, industrial/organizational and general psychology doctoral programs are designed to be completed in around three (3) years. Be advised that at CAU enrollment for the summer session is mandatory. 

    Finally, applicants must take into consideration that actual requisite completion rate is affected by a diversity of factors such as withdrawals and course repetition.

  4. If I’m transferring from a doctoral program outside CAU, how many credits can I request to be transferred from my current doctoral program?  [Top]
    Upon the recommendation of the Program Director, twenty one (21) credits can be accepted for transfer.
